From Xicheng, he turned a city,
a school and a shop into responsibility
Born in Harbin, Heilongjiang in 1974, Yu Dongxiao entered the business world in 1994 and founded Huitong Investment in 2001. Over the past two decades-plus, the business has come to span industrial-urban property, elderly care, healthcare, hospitality and culture, with major projects in Beijing, Harbin, Jinan, Qingdao, Yantai and Dalian. He cares not only about how large the enterprise becomes, but about where the returns it generates end up.
He built elderly care into a livelihood project for Tiantongyuan, directed charitable funds to classrooms in western Sichuan and western Shandong, and brought time-honored brands on the verge of being forgotten back into modern life. To him, social responsibility is not an add-on to the enterprise — it is the very reason the enterprise exists.
